Armed Incident near Shap

Police are dealing with an armed incident near Hardendale Quarry. Officers say they were contacted at 8pm yesterday, 17th January, following concern for the welfare of a man in his 60s.A search was started and the man was found at approximately 1am this morning in a woodland near to Hardendale Quarry, with a shotgun. An armed response has been sent out as a precaution.A cordon is in place, but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any risk to the public, negotiators are at the scene to try to resolve the situation safely.

Members of the public are asked to keep away.
