Whitehaven Academy - NEW BUILD

Luke Johnston

Cumbria Education Trust, which took over running of the run down academy last year, has earlier this week announced that funding has been secured from the Department for Education to build a new school on the academy's current site. It is expected work on the new building will start in spring 2020 and the opening is hoped for Easter 2021. The previous trust running the academy, Bright Tribe, revived unteen amount of hate, abuse and general dislike after it came out that investment meant for repairs and maintenance had not been spent on the building. A BBC report also highlighted the awful and poor condition of the school. Cumbria Educational Trust has said it has completed all its planned projects to ensure the school is safe, dry and warm and has invested further in an extensive internal decoration and refurbishment programme. The DfE has not yet revealed how much money it has made availablefor the new building, all though it has been said that the current school building will be used until the new one has been built.
