Due to heavy rain the flood warning which is in place in Cockermouth has been upgraded from “Flooding is possible” to “Flooding is expected - immediate action is required”
Businesses in Cockermouth are currently closing their flood barriers and getting prepared for possible flooding.
River levels have risen at the Kingfisher river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected between 03:00 and 13:00 tomorrow, 22/02/20. Low lying land and properties adjacent to the Rivers Cocker and Derwent at Cockermouth, including Memorial Gardens, Trout Hotel car park and the Cricket Ground.
River levels are expected to start to fall on Saturday afternoon 22/02/20.The Environment Agency are closely monitoring the situation.
